Worldliness doesn’t impress the world

Worldliness doesn’t impress the world.

Want to impress the world? Let not an ounce of sin weigh you down. Let no man smell the scent of it on you. They may hate you, but they can’t ignore you. They may nail you to the cross, but some standing nearby will say, “Surely Christ is the Son of God!”

Worldliness speaks of a Christ who can’t supplant the fleeting carnal pleasures with a higher, weightier, transcendent joy. It speaks of an empty Christ, who can’t really satisfy the deepest longings of the soul– and leaves it groping and grappling for something more scintillating. Worldliness denies the Christian’s hope, speaking of a treasure-less heaven and a boring eternity. Don’t be worldly. Don’t think it helps draw people to Christ. It doesn’t.

Be holy, for God is holy. Live in fear of God, not man. And then, people will begin to ask you about the hope that is in you.

but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you

1 Peter 3:15
